When it comes to musical projects concerning Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, none has yet to trump Tom Petty dressed as the Mad Hatter while chopping Alice up like a slice of cake in the 1985 video for “Don’t Come Around Here No More.”
But this being a new century (and decade, for that matter), the time’s come for an upgrade, one that arrives in the form of a Tim Burton film and its accompanying soundtrack. Burton’s forthcoming version of Carroll’s classic is already a highly anticipated entity. Now add the movie’s soundtrack—which MySpace revealed today—to the growing hype.
On board for Almost Alice, as the soundtrack is titled, are Franz Ferdinand, Wolfmother, Motion City Soundtrack, Metro Station, and Avril Lavigne, to name a few. Songs are strictly Alice-themed and bear names like “Fell Down a Hole” and “Tea Party.” No streams of tracks are available yet, but one quick scan down the full tracklisting (below) suggests the interpretations will be an eclectic bag.
A video for Lavigne’s contributing track is expected in early February, while the full album drops March 2. Meanwhile, the Burton film starring Johnny Depp (surprise, surprise) will hit theaters on March 5.
