The Antlers‘ Hospice will likely make a few Year End lists. And it should. The album’s mostly first-person narrative follows a man as he watches a loved one die of bone cancer, and that’s just the lyrical content of the album. Musically, the haunting pianos, layers of minor chords, and introspectively sung vocals make Bon Iver’s For Emma, Forever Ago feel like a frat party.
Peter Silberman and Co. chose to present the video for the track “Kettering” (without a doubt, one of the best songs on the album) as a series of still photographs. Remember that old saying about a picture being worth a thousand words? See below.
Hospice is out now via Frenchkiss.
