As reported recently, Brooklyn’s Yeasayer will release Odd Blood early next year, and if the first single is an indicator, our expectations for another psych-rock excursion à la All Hour Cymbals shall be pummeled to pieces upon the new album’s release. “Ambling Alp” sounds almost nothing like the songs on the band’s 2007 debut. Instead, the track wobbles between reverb-heavy IDM, synth-pop, and reggae, but, changes aside, you’ll recognize the band’s experimental spirit firmly intact and thriving here.
