t’s little wonder that 2009′s Ashes of American Flags documentary was a road-centric film that primarily captured Wilco onstage, backstage, and on the bus—these gents rarely seems to take a break from touring, and one quick peek at the ever-expanding list of dates currently up at the band’s website confirms that fact won’t change anytime soon. And you thought your work week was long.
From now until what’s likely be late 2010, Wilco will be trekking the globe once again, playing an endless round of shows that are selling out really, really fast.

As any informed Wilco fan knows, main axeman, Nels Cline, does a lot more than play guitar with the Chicago powerhouse. Among his many other side projects, including a recent venture with artist Norton Wisdom, he also leads the avant-garde outfit known as the Nels Cline Singers.
We’ve heard rumors of a new album from the trio for a while, and all speculation can now cease, as we’ve got the official word that Cryptogramophone will unleash Initiate on April 13.

Whether it’s Julian Casablancas performing “I Wish it Was Christmas” with the Roots, Bright Eyes smashing the hell out of a trumpet onstage, or Ben Harper, Beck, and Billy Gibbons joining Will Ferrell and Conan for a rendition of “Free Bird,” late-night television affords us a wealth of entertaining performances (and just sheer entertainment) as far as musical guests go.
Ergo, each week, we round up every show’s scheduled performances and place them in a handy little list.

While we were away for the holidays, Beck’s Record Club continued cranking out the music. The previously mentioned third installment of his ongoing “informal meeting of various musicians” features the members of Wilco, along with Feist, Jamie Lidell, and Beck himself, covering the music of Jefferson Airplane member Skip Spence. Feist and Jeff Tweedy did [...]

While Wilco have spent their post-tour days playing classic psych-folk numbers, songstress Norah Jones has stayed busy covering the Chicago powerhouse itself. Specifically, she performed a version of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot‘s “Jesus, Etc.” recently for Sirius XM, and it can be heard right now.

A quick refresher. Five months ago, Beck started his Record Club project, which he touts on his site as “an informal meeting of various musicians to record an album in a day.”
Previously, we’ve seen the man himself covering The Velvet Underground and Nico, as well as MGMT and Devendra Banhart covering Songs of Leonard Cohen.
Rumor surfaced a while back that Wilco would, at some point, be involved with the project, a fact confirmed via beck.com earlier this week. Better yet, neo-soul crooner Jamie Lidell and Feist just happened to be hanging around the studio when Wilco dropped by, and the whole crew covered Jefferson Airplane member Skip Spence’s classic psych-folk album, Oar. Jeff Tweedy’s son Spencer even lended a hand with some of the drumming for the project.
The eight songs recorded during that session will be released in weekly installments. The first, “Little Hands,” is up and available now.
