Releasing music is a tricky business these days. A task even more demanding is keeping track of the abundance of albums, compilations, singles, and EPs that drop each month, not to mention digital-versus-physical release times, overseas dates, and the occasional artist name change.

Whether it’s Julian Casablancas performing “I Wish it Was Christmas” with the Roots, Bright Eyes smashing the hell out of a trumpet onstage, or Ben Harper, Beck, and Billy Gibbons joining Will Ferrell and Conan for a rendition of “Free Bird,” late-night television affords us a wealth of entertaining performances (and just sheer entertainment) as far as musical guests go.
