I may be wearing a ski cap and five layers as I write this, but it does seem as though winter’s dreariness is waning. If nothing else, there’s a boatload of new music to brighten the coming weeks, and we’ll happily crank all of it at full volume to shut out the sound of the non-stop rain.

Earlier last month, Memphis garage-rock pioneer Jay Reatard passed away at the age of 29. According to The Memphis Commerical Appeal, Reatard—born Jimmy Lindsey Jr.—was found dead in his home. Seven mere days into the new year, Jack White, not surprisingly, is already announcing new releases, the latest from The Dead Weather. White and the band are currently in the studio recording a second album, the early sessions of which they’ve turned into a new 7″.

Holidays and winter months are ahead, which means that tours are winding down many of our favorite artists will get some well-deserved R&R for a couple months.
Jack White is not among them, and as usual, that’s entirely by choice. The White Stripes/Raconteurs/Dead Weather captain–a.k.a. the busiest man in the biz–will fill his forthcoming days off with another project, recording a new LP for 72-year-old icon Wanda Jackson (Via P4K).
