As if the Monsters of Folk weren't super-group enough, they've now joined forces with The Roots, for version 2.0 of their self-titled album opener.

Monsters of Folk is already a super-group, so we’re not quite sure what to call Jim James, Conor Oberst, M. Ward and Mike Mogis plus The Roots. Colossal group? (Thanks, thesaurus.com)

In any case, the two teams have joined forces and now give us “Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.)” in a new, fresh form, with MC Black Thought rhyming in between James’ vocal choruses, and the pairing works surprisingly well.

The original song, of course, is off MOF’s self-titled record from last year. This redux will appear on The Roots forthcoming new album, How I Got Over, but you can hear the track below right now (via TwentyFourBit).

The video was directed by Nele Hecht and produced by Kathleen Bryson, who are also now the proud owners of an extremely sweet prize package.

Monsters of Folk are so busy touring and playing dress-up they clearly don't have time to make a new music video, and have asked fans to step up and assume the responsibility.

Put in simpler terms, they're holding a video contest. M. Ward, Conor Oberst, Jim James, and Mike Mogis have asked fans to create a "compelling" video for the song "Dear God," first track off the band's self-titled album. Post the video to YouTube with the tag "Dear Folk Monster." One winner gets $5,000, a signed Gibson acoustic, and a copy of Final Cut Pro.

Probably not onstage at the Louisville Palace Theatre, performing while decked out in classic-era Kiss regalia, which is reportedly how the Monsters of Folk passed this year’s holiday.

A show review by the Louisville Courier-Journal states that the supergroup gave an encore both dressed as the famous foursome and performing classic jams like “Detroit Rock City” and “Rock and Roll All Nite.” Throw in Jim James as Gene Simmons and Conor Oberst in eight-inch heels, playing the part of Paul Stanley, and, well, we can only be grateful someone caught the fanfare on camera.
