Last time we checked in with Great Lake Swimmers, frontman Tony Dekker was singing from the inside of a photo booth in Belfast, Ireland.
The group is moving up in the world, having recently performed their song “Palmistry,” off last year’s Lost Channels, for an in-store performance at Sonic Boom.

Who among us hasn’t experienced a night of drunken revelry that ends with three or four people paying five dollars to cram themselves into a booth and pose for the world’s most unflattering photo op? Great Lake Swimmers frontman Tony Dekker took this ridiculous practice a step further recently, while in Belfast, and played an entire song inside one. It’s definitely a new take on the whole “man alone with his guitar” concept. GLS’ Lost Channels was just named one of the best records of 2009 over at iTunes, so the band is obviously in an appropriately lighthearted mood these days.

Nothing like a little tug at the heartstrings to get the weekend started. Great Lake Swimmers just released the video for “Palmistry,” off this year’s Lost Channels. Director Sean Michael Turrell (Tegan & Sara, Brendan Canning) placed the band on a ship for the occasion, though the sun-drenched waters here don’t detract from the aura of sadness onboard, thanks to Tony Dekker and Co.’s ability to craft heartwrenchingly beautiful tales.
