A pressing question weighing heavily on all our minds these days: What’s up with vampires and indie rock? Flying axes. Knife fights. Baseball played with melons. A kid in a Sponge Bob outfit being hauled away by cops while Charlotte Gainsbourg and Beck sing poolside. A quick refresher. Five months ago, Beck started his Record Club project, which he touts on his site as “an informal meeting of various musicians to record an album in a day.”

Better yet, neo-soul crooner Jamie Lidell and Feist just happened to be hanging around the studio when Wilco dropped by, and the whole crew covered Jefferson Airplane member Skip Spence’s classic psych-folk album, Oar. Jeff Tweedy’s son Spencer even lended a hand with some of the drumming for the project.
The eight songs recorded during that session will be released in weekly installments. The first, “Little Hands,” is up and available now.
