“Re: Stacks” probably ranks as one of the most melancholy songs off Bon Iver‘s For Emma, Forever Ago. It’s not necessarily the sort of track one would automatically flag as dance remix material, but Danish producer Tomas Barford—a.k.a. Tomboy—has gone and turned the song into a lengthy and hypnotic house track, and the end result is quite pleasant.
Barford has kept Justin Vernon’s poignant verses intact, along with the gentle acoustic strumming off the original track, and even with the slightly trancey synths and oodles of handclaps, it’s still not a number you’d drop on the 2 a.m. dancefloor when the kids are coming up. The remix is better suited for a contemplative seven minutes on the couch, with the lights down low. Which is exactly the mood the original produced too.
Off the Radar is streaming the song right now.
In other Bon Iver news, “Flume,” also off Emma, appears on Peter Gabriel’s covers album, which is out next week. Listen to the version below.

Remix is OK but its kinda tricky messing with the best song of the decade
I don’t even have to listen to the Peter Gabriel cover to know its gonna blow overblown and epic
