Nebraska native Josh Rouse has undergone quite the transformation in recent years, having morphed from an alt-country troubadour into an artist making distinctly more mellowed tunes that reflect his current hometown of Valencia, Spain, rather than his Midwestern roots.
Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn’t, but regardless, Rouse shows no signs of returning to his former musical self. A forthcoming new album, El Turista finds him dabbling in the music of Cuba, Brazil, Spain, and Venezuela, and singing in Spanish too. Think salsa, samba, and all things Latin for this release.
“Valencia” is the first single off the album. It’s streaming over at MySpace right now, and also available for download via iTunes, as part of the Valencia EP.
El Turista will drop February 16 via Bedroom Classics/Nettwerk.
