R.I.P. Jerry Fuchs, Drummer for Juan MacLean and !!!

Jerry Fuchs Jerry Fuchs, best known as the drummer for bands like !!!, the Juan MacLean, Maserati, and Turing Machine, died on Saturday night after falling down an elevator shaft in Brooklyn. He was 34.

The New York Post is reporting that Fuchs and a friend became stuck in a manual freight elevator between floors at a benefit party in Williamsburg. They attempted to open the elevator door and leap the few feet to the fifth floor. The friend made the jump, but a piece of Fuchs clothing caught the elevator and he fell several stories. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

From a post on Juan Maclean’s site:

“Jerry was one of my best and most loyal friends. He was hands-down the best drummer I have ever played with or seen for that matter. Jerry was with me from the start of The Juan MacLean, and we had countless adventures together all over the world. He was utterly sincere and fiercely loyal. During a particularly difficult time, while backstage in a club in Chicago, Jerry told me ‘Juan, I will follow you to the end of the earth and I will always be there for you.’ That was Jerry, the greatest drummer in the world, the greatest friend you could ever have.”
