R.I.P. Jay Reatard

Jay Reatard In some very, very sad news, Memphis garage-rock pioneer Jay Reatard—born Jay Lindsey Jr.—has passed away. The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports that he was found in his home at 3:30 a.m. this morning. He was 29.

In an official post, Matador Records, who released Reatard’s 2009 album, Watch Me Fall, said that, “Jay was as full of life as anyone we’ve ever met and responsible for so many memorable moments as a person and artist. We’re honored to have known and worked with him, and we will miss him terribly.”

According to the Goner Records message board, Reatard died in his sleep. More details are forthcoming.
