Last summer, Wilco’s main axeman Nels Cline spent an afternoon with painter Norton Widsom, and from the looks of the clip below, one hell of an aural-visual day took place. “He paints, I improvise,” Cline stated in reference to the collaboration, which means that a whole lot of spontaneous brush-strokes and awesome guitar noodling went on.
If you weren’t in SoCal, at The Smell, where the session took place, take heart. Aeght Nign was on hand to capture the afternoon on film, and jazz imprint Green Leaf Music has it available on DVD right now. The disc, dubbed Stained Radiance, includes two full-length Cline/Wisdom performances, along with behind-the-scenes interviews and footage. Pick up a copy here.
