American musician and producer Jim O’Rourke has announced the release of his most recent project, All Kinds of People – Love Burt Bacharach. This 11-track tribute album includes the most well known of Bacharach’s work as covered by O’Rourke himself and his old friend Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth. Also performing on the album is former Bacharach collaborator Donna Taylor and a variety of other artists from Japan, where O’Rourke is currently living.
The project comes more than 10 years after he covered Bacharach’s “Something Big” on his 1999 release Eureka, and for All Kinds of People…, O’ Rourke tackled more than just the production elements of the album. He had his hand on nearly every instrument except the drums, which were left to Glenn Kotche of Wilco. Fan favorites include “Say a Little Prayer,” performed by Japanese musician Yoshimi, who has previously served as a session player, vocalist, and subject matter for the Flaming Lips 2002 release, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.
All Kinds of People-Love Burt Bacharach is due to hit shelves on April 7, via AWDR. Live performances are set for Tokyo and Osaka in the week following the album’s release, and will include “special guests”, as if it doesn’t already seem special enough.
