Jesse Malin‘s had a colorful few years. After stints as everything from charity auctioneer to a Las Vegas wedding DJ, along with a self-professed “personality crisis,” the ex-D Generation frontman signed to SideOneDummy and started work on a fourth solo album in late 2009 (Via Paste).
Love it to Live is Malin’s first record with his new band, The St. Marks Social, and he had additional help from longtime pal and collaborator Ryan Adams, The Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon, and Mandy Moore.
He’s also found inspiration in the work of J.D. Salinger, and in addition to Love it to Live, Malin has kept busy penning tracks for a forthcoming documentary on the late writer. The film, which has been in the making for five years, is directed by Shane Salerno (of Armageddon fame). The five songs Malin wrote have yet to be officially announced as part of the soundtrack, but, at the very least, they prompted the following words from the songwriter: “Salinger was one of the original punk-rock writers. Fuck Clockwork Orange or Taxi Driver; Holden Caulfield was an outsider all the way.”
Malin will soon launch a tour, for which some initial dates (below) have been released. Meanwhile, Love it to Live is out April 27.
