Some time back, Peter Gabriel announced that his first album in seven years would see a release in early 2010. It was also mentioned that, rather than being a traditionally straightforward album, Scratch My Back would consist of “major reinterpretations of some famous stuff.” David Bowie, Radiohead, Talking Heads, Paul Simon, and Bon Iver are among the artists that the former Genesis frontman has chosen to cover for the project.
The album will be released in February, and excerpts from selected tracks are currently available at Gabriel’s site. Additionally, Stereogum is streaming his version of Arcade Fire’s “My Body is a Cage.”
Scratch My Back is out February 15 on Virgin. Gabriel has also announced a handful of shows that will kick of in March. Dates are below, along with the new album’s cover art.
