Exciting news surfaced this morning from the Elliott Smith camp, and thanks to Kill Rock Stars, two reissues are headed our way soon.
April will see the re-release of Roman Candle, Smith’s first solo album that was originally released on the Portland-based Cavity Search imprint. Says KRS founder Slim Moon of the album, “I have never heard music as heartwrenchingly, gut-checkingly honest, intimate, and wise—before or since.” Tape Op Magazine editor and Smith archivist Larry Crane remastered the album, which will also be released on vinyl for the first time in the US.
Additionally, KRIS will reissue Smith’s classic From a Basement on the Hill, originally released in 2004 via ANTI-.
Both albums will be available April 6.
Now, it wouldn’t be a proper reissue celebration without an unreleased song or two, and the label is currently giving away “Cecilia/Amanda,” recorded way back in 1997. The song was originally written by Stranger Than Fiction, Smith’s high school band, but later reworked and given new lyrics. It’s up for streaming/downloading right now.
