In December, we received an early Christmas present in the form of news that two Elliot Smith reissues were on the way, namely, Smith’s first solo album, Roman Candle, and From a Basement on a Hill, which was incomplete at the time of Smith’s death and later finished by former producer Rob Schnapf and ex-girlfriend Joanna Bolme.
Kill Rock Stars will unleash remastered versions of both albums on April 6, but has made a couple MP3s already available.

Bigbang originally hail from Norway, but these days, the band’s attentions are focused halfway across the globe, on the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles. Their new album, Edendale, is a nod to the neighborhood’s former name, along with its past as a major hub in the silent film industry.
Paradoxically, then, the band specializes in no-nonsense rock compositions that often start with a, um, bang, and rarely let up. “Call Me,” the second track off the album, can be streamed/downloaded now.

April is just around the corner, which means good news and bad news. The bad news is that taxes are due. The good news is that we can all cheer ourselves up after forking over a check to the government by celebrating Record Store Day on April 17.
Beach House plans to take part in the annual observance of independent record retailers. Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally have prepped the Zebra EP, which will be sold exclusively through participating outlets on Record Store Day. The release features two new versions of tracks off the duo’s recently released Teen Dream.
