“We are the World” & “Everybody Hurts” Electronically Reprocessed to Give a More Lifelike Effect

Twenty-five years ago, USA for Africa—featuring The Gambler, Aunty Entity, The Piano Man, The King of Pop, The Redheaded Stranger, The Boss, and a veritable fuck-ton of equally impressive musicians of varying musical and cultural backgrounds that may or may not have had sweet nicknames—recorded the four-times-platinum-selling “We Are the World,” an American benefit single for African famine relief written by Lionel Ritchie and the late Michael Jackson.

In light of January 12’s devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake in Haiti, Ritchie and a new, less impressive supergroup rerecorded the track Monday, along with REM’s “Everybody Hurts,” in effort to raise money for Haiti’s earthquake relief.
