Last Friday, we had an initial taste of Jamie Lidell’s forthcoming new album via the song “Compass.” Turns out that number is the title track off the new release, and plenty more details regarding the album emerged today.

Over the course of the last year, 20-plus artists—Tom Waits, Merle Haggard, Jim James, and Andrew Bird among them—travelled to New Orleans’ Preservation Hall to play classic songs of the city while backed by the famed Preservation Hall Jazz Band. It looks like this year’s Fat Tuesday is going to be extra, um, fat, as RED Distribution and MRI will release these collaborations onto one disc entitled Preservation.

Earlier last month, Memphis garage-rock pioneer Jay Reatard passed away at the age of 29. According to The Memphis Commerical Appeal, Reatard—born Jimmy Lindsey Jr.—was found dead in his home.
